Dirk Sutro is a writer and jazz lover based in Encinitas, California. He’s covered jazz for more than 20 years. As host of The Lounge on KPBS-FM public radio in San Diego from 1999 to 2004, Dirk interviewed jazz musicians including Arthur Blythe, Don Byron, Holly Hofmann, Lee Konitz, Mundell Lowe, Bennie Maupin, Steve Lacy, Joe Lovano, Charles McPherson, Sam Rivers, and Mike Wofford. He was the jazz critic for the San Diego edition of the Los Angeles Times from 1988 to 1992 and is the author of two books about architecture: West Coast Wave: New California Houses and San Diego Architecture from Missions to Modern. He currently serves as program promotion manager for the Department of Music at the University of California, San Diego. He’s a graduate of U.C. Berkeley (BA in English) and San Diego State University (MS in Mass Communications).

The book begins with a short thumbnail introduction of the story of Route 66, and then heads into an east-to-west, state-by-state series of chapters. When she has a physical confrontation with the poachers and one of them is killed by the animal they are trying to steal, his brother vows to get even.
There is lots of action, a variety of animals with odd habits to get used to, and more bad guys than there are good guys. He didn't rest on his Nobel-laurels but worked on virtually every major problem of molecular biology in "The Excitiement of the Sixties" from the key to the genetic code to mechanisms of protein synthesis, from phage genetics to gradients in developing organisms. He stated, "Although Andy Warhol's famous movies are among the most boring ever made, this book about them is endless fascinating".
Factory Made is filled with trivia and candid photos (some of them, never before seen)
