Judges records the birth pangs of the Israelite nation. From the Conquest to the Settlement, the conflicts in this book (military, political, and religious) reveal a nascent Israel, struggling to define itself as a people. The period of the Judges, c. 1200-1100 B.C.E., was fraught with intertribal struggles, skirmishes and pitched battles with neighboring peoples, and the constant threat of assimilation. The Israelites repeatedly turned away from their God: ignored his commandments, worshipped other gods, and continually sinned. Yahweh raised up judges to lead the people back to covenant faithfulness. In their several roles as priest, prophet, and military chief of staff, these judges heeded God's call and led the people. In the Book of Judges, we get rare glimpses into the exceptional qualities and human frailties of these leaders. The approachable stories, the humor, and even the criticism of the children of Israel and the judges surprisingly illuminate a people in transition.Boling's

However, I feel that Amullete Aflame can be read as a stand-alone, because there is enough of a back-story in the beginning to catch you up to what is going on.
I loved this story. Similarly to the Bunny one, Pets has duplicate images and each image is of a different animal. The story seems completely unrealistic (even more so than you would come to expect from a romance novel haha) and the conversations are difficult to follow. Worked out pretty well, I think.
Okay it's no secret that this book is about time-travel. There are some good diagrams that really help the geometric intuition (though not as good as the ones by Donoho et al. I'm back in my teens and coloring in those few books that were not "Children's coloring books". There was a lot of inner dialogue and explanations that were a little too lengthy for my taste.
When you mash the POV flip-flops, the time changes, the slowness and the amount of plots and sub-plots going on it just didn't end
