The book comes with the requisite photos from his life but also includes photos of some of his more famous dinners. As a gay man under the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy, he has to keep his sexuality a secret or face ostracism and possible discharge from the military.
I thought the book was brilliantly written. Francis Crick was brilliant, idiosyncratic, scientist. Started out great, but overall, depressing and too real. Things that remind him of other events lead to little anecdotes about something else. Menus inserted at various points in the narrative reveal that Escoffier was flamboyant in the description of his culinary creations, often shamelessly naming them after the prospective guest of honor. But maybe next time. The price is right also for the book. HE WOULD BE THE FIRST TO TELL YOU HE WAS A JERK BEFORE RECOVERY,THAT'S THE WHOLE CONCEPT OF RECOVERY, THAT YOU BECOME A CHANGED,HEALED,{HEALING}
